Naci\u00f3 en Par\u00eds de padre polaco y madre mexicana, pero se mud\u00f3 a M\u00e9xico a diez a\u00f1os de edad y ha dedicado toda su obra literaria, period\u00edstica y activista a, en palabras de \u00c1lvaro Mutis, \u00abser un testigo de su tiempo y a la vez crear un mundo de ficci\u00f3n tan real como el otro\u00bb. Ha escrito novelas testimonios sobre los acontecimientos m\u00e1s significativos y provocativos de la historia contempor\u00e1nea de M\u00e9xico, como son la Revoluci\u00f3n Mexicana, la Masacre de Tlatelolco o el terremoto de M\u00e9xico en 1985. La relevancia de la mujer en la sociedad mexicana, las injusticias y la cr\u00edtica social, la vida cotidiana, el arte y las biograf\u00edas noveladas figuran entre los temas constantes de su obra.
